The network illustrating the use of the AVS 5 streamlines module for a static streamline display is contained in the file ~kpulo/ass2b.net, and is shown in Figure 2.
As can be seen, Figures 1 and 2 are quite similar. This is because the hedgehog and streamlines modules both deal with the same task -- taking a 3D vector field and converting it to a (possibly coloured) geometry of some description. The colours are generated in exactly the same fashion as in Figure 1, and the tube module has been omitted1.
However, the plane of sampled data points used by the streamlines module is different. Here we take a vertical cross-section of the data set, and can clearly see the strong jetstream at the top, the gentler winds travelling in the opposite direction at the bottom, and the turbulent region in between where wind rises into the jetstream.
