1 Introduction

Every optical system has a limited, finite resolution and introduces noise into the signals it measures. However, these problems can be addressed in a quantitative fashion to enhance the recorded image so that it is closer to the actual image, in both a quantitative and qualitative sense. These optical systems are usually high resolution optical microscopes, often confocal microscopes.
